Do You Want To Live To 100?

I just opened a Christmas card from a good friend.  She enclosed the following update on her life:

The years are flying by faster and faster. I am on my same schedule except that I have finally had to quit playing volleyball. My spine trouble seems to bother my legs with volleyball. But, I still don't have any trouble biking, playing badminton and going to the gym three times a week to lift weights.

Sounds like a lot of people in middle age. Except she is 87 years old. She also holds national age group championships in 65+ volleyball and 75+ badminton. Her one daughter was a two time Olympian, the other, an elite diver and volleyball player.

She finished her greeting by saying she plans to live to 100. I just want to make it to 70.

  3. Okay I wish I'd never read this.  I'm sitting in this wheelchair watching my rear end get bigger and bigger because I have to sit all day and an 87 year old woman  does everything BUT play volleyball!  I'm so green with jealousy that if you put a couple of shiney red balls around my neck I could be used as a Christmas decoration.  Pennie

  5. My dad is 84 and works out 5 days a week...he is a Senior Olympian -- throws the discus and the shotput!!

Recently, we celebrated a woman at my gym's birthday. Sadie works out several days a week and is sharp as a tack - this was her 105th birthday!! I love her -- she has completely changed MY idea of "middle-aged." (And just in time, since I'm 48!! LOL)

    Gotta go...to my Spinning class!

  6. I used to wish I could live until 100 because I want to get arrested for public lewdness on my 100 birthday.

I'll settle for being accused of being a dirty old man at 50. It's less work.

  7. Your friend seems to be doing something right. I think the key here is exercise. My one Grandmother lived to 103, she did not have an easy life and worked very hard for the majority of her life. My Dad is now 90 and still does his own yardwork, climbs ladders etc. (drives me nuts). So I think you need to stay active and Mrs. L since you seem to like the Gym so much...I think you will make it past 70.  Sandi http://journals.aol.com/sdoscher458/LifeIsFullOfSurprises
