John Scalzi continues his weekly homework:
Bad Movie Marathon! Share your favorite bad film of all time. Tell us why you love it so.
Extra Credit: Your favorite quote from the aforementioned film.
Tom Wolfe's book The
Right Stuff became a wonderful film when it was adapted for the screen. But one of his novels, Bonfire of
the Vanities, was probably the most egregious adaptation ever.
When I heard that comic actor Tom
Hanks had been tapped to play the intensely amoral lead role, I
shuddered. This moment of inspired miscasting was the first clue that
the movie was doomed.
The final kiss of death came when I
heard that the director would be Brian de Palma, who is, for my money,
one of the most flamboyantly terrible filmmakers on the planet, except
for the excesses of Stanley Kubrick.
That's when I knew this baby was toast. And I was not disappointed.
But this celluloid trainwreck is
worth watching for the very reasons it sucks. The thrill of seeing Tom Hanks
go in the tank has a certain appeal. Tracking Brian de Palma's
ham-handed direction is another.
And of course, there's the Shakespearean dialog:
"If you're going to live in a whorehouse, there's only one thing you can do: be the best damn whore around."
What's not to love to hate?

picked worst movie

that you would watch again

My bad movie i love to hate is ST ELMOS FIRE .....full of 80's big hair and manufactured agnst it makes me cringe with happiness lol
The twentysomethings in it freaking out over problems of thier own making kills me but my favourite scene is when Demi Moore decides she cant take any more of her" actually quite bloody nice thanks life " and trys to commt suicide by wait for it ......SITTING IN A ROOM WITH THE WINDOWS OPEN !!!!!
Jeeeeeesus death by slight draft ? Give me a break but hysterical none the less and always have to watch it when it comes on x
Finally ... somebody else who doesn't think that anything Kubrick put his hand to was genious. Contrary to it's glowing reviews, I thought 'Eyes Wide Shut' was one of the silliest films I ever had the misfortune of seeing. I laughed through that whole stupid 'Invitation Only' party scene..... just the sound effects on that scene alone were enough to put me over the edge. And Nicole Kidman's closing line? She should have won an award for "most awkward use of the F word." Go figure ...... Tina http://journals.aol.com/onemoretina/Ridealongwithme
I'm glad to hear there is at least one person on earth who agrees with my opinion of Stanley Kubrick and his films.
i didnt see the movie, but I really love the quote!
