Federal Funding to Fix The Levees Before Katrina Denied
A news anchor on one
of the national telecasts revealed that a request for 20 million in
federal funds to shore up the levees around New Orleans was recently
turned down.
I'd like to know more about that decision.

I hear this as well.... They also new days in advance that the levies wouldnt hold. They had a press conference{I watched it} And said "The levies are not going to hold"...With this kind of foresight, wouldnt it have made sense for the "powers that be" evacuate as they are doing now??? Where was FEMA? They knew this was coming and had a rough idea of the magnitude{Comparing to Camille says that in itself}... Mismanagement...sigh My heart is heavy for those suffering, not just for the storm, yet for all this aftermath as well... Peace Jodi

If this is the case....I hope all those that voted it down...can now live with themselves.
So just what were they using that half a million a day in taxes from the casinos for? Is the levee a federal issue?

Mother Nature is a cruel mistress. This isn't the first time a city has fallen into the sea and, my guess is, it won't be the last.
But think what that 20 million might have saved. $25 billion in damage and countless lives lost?
I'm waiting to hear more about that too...
