Very Funny, L'il Bro

If you're enjoying contemplating Danube steamship company captains or the absurdity of modern regulation, you might also want to consider "Rinderkennzeichnungs
- und Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetz."  The "cattle marking and beef labeling supervision duties delegation law" from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.  The name of the law was eventually changed to "Gesetz zur Übertragung der Aufgaben für die Überwachung der Rinderkennzeichnung und Rindfleischetikettierung."  See http://mv.juris.de/mv/RkReUeAUeG_MV_rahmen.htm. Perhaps the government lawyer could retool as a Mecklenburger Cattle Marking and Beef Labeling Supervision Duties Delegation Lawyer.  Or, more colloquially, ein "Mecklenbourgischerinderkennzeichnungs- und Rindfleischetikettierungsüberwachungsaufgabenübertragungsgesetzrechtsanwalt?"

One of my brothers left this comment after reading the long German word I used in my post on Schadenfreude. Needless to say he's an attorney. I should have known he could top me. By the way, the word was donaudampfschiffahrtsgesellschaftskapitän which means Danish Captain of a German U-Boat That Is Going Down The River As Soon As You Get Your Big Fat Butt Moving. Okay it means what ever my brother said.

Lordy, I should know better than to perpetuate this schadenfreude-fest. Not only can I not turn away from an impending train wreck, but I feel compelled to find my own locomotive in order to participate in the crunching. Anyway, a recent NY Times article reported on a schadenfreude paper by Tania Singer Published in Nature (http://www.nytimes.com/2006/01/24/science/24side.html?ei=5088&en=cdebb010cca19b52&ex=1295758800&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss&pagewanted=print).  Beyond the "shades of Freud" pun in the opening sentence, the oversimplified  punch line is that the MRI study demonstrated that "empathy circuits lighted up in both men and women when bad things happened to good people. When bad things happened to bad people, the women in the study were still empathic. But not the men. Not only did they show less empathy toward bad people, but the reward center in the left nucleus accumbens lighted up." Disappointingly (if one is hung up on pertinence), I couldn't find a reference to blond/non-blond differentiation.

I think I'm going to step aside here and let the big boys play.  Mrs. L

Hey, Mrs. L .... We must be on the same wavelength these days.  I wrote an entry about the article that  dr1hguy is referring to in his comment.  I'm with you ...  I really don't get that whole 'gloating over someone else's misery' thing, although my husband and son seem to have a different take on it.  But then, they ARE men.   Tina http://journals.aol.com/onemoretina/Ridealongwithme/entries/1876
