Sex and the Indy 500

From AOL SPORTS
(May 28) - Robby Gordon accused Danica Patrick of having an unfair advantage in the Indianapolis 500 and said Saturday he will not compete in the race again unless the field is equalized.

Okay, Robby, let's discuss your problem.

All Indy cars have to weigh the same.  Then you add the driver.  You, Robby, weigh 200 pounds.  Danica weighs only 100.  According to the article, her lighter weight means about one extra mph over the course of the race.

In a competition where increments can win or lose everything, the weight factor is something to consider.

So Robby, you probably want some dead weight added to Danica's car -- and anybody else's car for that matter --  insuring that all drivers weigh the same. Sounds good on paper except for one thing.

The strength factor. How are you going to equalize the strength factor now, Robby? At 100 pounds Danica is at a distinct disadvantage next to you.

That whole muscle strength is related to body mass thing.

Driving an Indy car around a 2.5 mile track at speeds over 225 mph isn't like driving the Camry over the speed limit on the thruway. There are massive G-forces in the turns that require considerable strength to overcome and maintain control of the vehicle. Again and again and again.

How are you going to equalize things for Danica? Are you going to make it harder for the stronger drivers to steer?

Not likely.

Weight factor versus strength factor.  Six of one, half dozen of the other?  By the next Indy race we may know.

Right now, some female has finally found a decent ride and she could win this thing, even though she's only a rookie. Isn't that the real problem here?

So give it a rest, Robby. You sound like you're whining. Just like a girl.

Hi Mrs. L, I'm a devoted lurker but I had to speak out on this one.  I'm glad I'm not the only one who is outraged at this whine, what about all of the other drivers?  I'm sure they don't all weigh 200 lbs,  why hasn't he complained about lighter men?  Perhaps he should consider a diet? LOL  I love your journal and read it first thing every day.  Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, the first thing I thought when reading about his "concerns" was that he was being a big baby about the whole thing.

I hope the best driver wins. There are no current rules that someone who is lightweight compared to the others is driving illegally, nor someone who is way overweight, either. Someone is whining and looking for an excuse to keep the girl out of the tree house. How childish!

I was an 85-lb weakling who worked at the local race track when I was in college, in the administrative office. Every single day trainers were in my face begging me to be a jockey. They didn't even care that I don't ride. However, extreme light weight as a jockey is an issue, as even with weights added, lightsweights tend to be blown off the horse as they are riding. So it may also be with driving that her light weight is an issue not in her favor. Perhaps as strength, as you mention.

She qualified and followed the rules. Stop the whining and let the driver do her thing!

Woo-hoo, Mrs. Linklater!  Add Gordon's name to the list of asses kicked.

She's already demonstrated the strength thing is a moot point. With the exception of Gordon just being a big pussy to begin with, I don't see an issue. I guess leveling the playing field only works when you take something away from someone else.

It all sounds so very D-E-M-O-C-R-A-T-I-C.

Im loving this Dancia chick already .....any gal who can get in one of those machines and haul butt like she apparently can gets my support .
Whats this Robby fella scared of ? If hes so worried about the weight thing im sure a couple of months down the gym and eating nothing but lettuce leaves and drinking green tea will give him the svelt like figure hes looking for ....i mean surely its not that hes scared of a woman whooping his ass ....i think its more to do with the fact that he hates his child bearing hips and hates having to say "does my ass look big in this overall " to the guys in the pit hehe
