Patrick's Saturday Six Hurricane Katrina Edition

I have strange connections with phone numbers, birthdays, and events. For some reason I have several friends who share the last four numbers of their phone numbers. Different cities, same last four numbers. Or same numbers, different order.

Terrible events fall on friends' birthdays. The Oklahoma bombing was the same day as a friend's birthday. Same with November 22, when Kennedy was shot.

My children were both born on the eleventh of the month. So was one of their grandmothers. Then came 911. I dated two guys who have the exact same birthday I do. My father died on my sister's birthday.

One of my brothers was born on my parents wedding anniversary, which is also Thanksgiving every few years. As well as the same day that my dad's brother was killed in flight school back in the thirties.

I thought it was interesting that I didn't know anyone named Katrina, because I usually know at least one person whose name has become synonymous with the name of a hurricane. Yesterday I was renting a car from a young blond woman who spoke English with a Scandanavian accent.  She was reviewing all the details of the contract and wrote her name at the top of the page -- "KAT" -- "It's short for Katrina."  Karma.

1. What is the price of gas at your regular station?  Have you made any changes to holiday plans because of gas prices?

We're flirting with three bucks. Some places in the city are almost four. I changed my holiday plans. I'm driving instead of flying. I decided that this may be my last chance for a road trip for under fifty dollars a tank.

2. Some people feel that the song that was #1 when they were born somehow helps shape their life.  Which song was #1 when you were born, according to this site. Do you think it relates to your life at all?

I'm guessing something with Frank Sinatra orGlen Miller. Sheesh. Can't wait to find out. Oh, you'll like this. They don't go back that far. Ha. So you're supposed to use your eighteenth birthday:

Runaround Sue

by Dion

Here's my story, sad but true
It's about a girl that I once knew
She took my love then ran around
With every single guy in town
Ah, I should have known it from the very start
This girl will leave me with a broken heart
Now listen people what I'm telling you
A-keep away from-a Runaround Sue

I miss her lips and the smile on her face
The touch of her hair and this girl's warm embrace
So if you don't wanna cry like I do
A-keep away from-a Runaround Sue

Ah, she likes to travel around
She'll love you but she'll put you down
Now people let me put you wise
Sue goes out with other guys
Here's the moral and the story from the guy who knows
I fell in love and my love still grows
Ask any fool that she ever knew, they'll say
Keep away from-a Runaround Sue

She likes to travel around
She'll love you but she'll put you down
Now people let me put you wise
Sue goes out with other guys
Here's the moral and the story from the guy who knows
I fell in love and my love still grows
Ask any fool that she ever knew, they'll say
Keep away from-a Runaround Sue

Just let me say I didn't cheat when I was married.

3. Take this quiz:  Which child does it say you are?  Is it correct about your birth order?

I'm the oldest daughter of an oldest daughter of an oldest daughter. Cosmic huh.  This quiz better figure that out. <<GASP>> It did!!

YOU ARE AN OLDEST CHILD

At your darkest moments, you feel guilty.
At work and school, you do best when you're researching.
When you love someone, you tend to agree with them often.

In friendship, you are considerate and compromising.
Your ideal careers are: business, research, counseling, promotion, and speaking.
You will leave your mark on the world with discoveries, new information, and teaching people to dream.

4. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #61 from De:  What animal do you equate your spirit with and why?  (This site may be helpful.)

Before I find out what the web site says, let me say my spirit is a wild horse. I want it to be an eagle or a panther, but a horse keeps showing up in my mind's eye. With a duck-billed platypus waddling right behind it. I've been a horse lover since I could put my foot in the stirrups -- no, not THOSE stirrups. I can't finish, I'm laughing too hard at my own joke.

HORSE TOTEM:
Horse represents freedom and power. Horse people are wild spirits that cannot be broken. If Horse comes to you, look for safe passage into the new. We must synchronize our motives with that of others so we can quickly and steadily reach our goals. [Huh? What's with that last sentence -- synchronizing my motives with others? WTF?]

5. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #62 from Psychfun:  If you had to describe your personality as a nut (as in the eatable kind) what nut would you be and why?

Do you mean edible? I love cashews and pistachios. And since people think I'm a nut and pistachio is kind of a wild and crazy name for a nut, especially since it makes ice cream green, let's go with pistachio.

NOTE:  Apparently there was a quiz at De's about what kind of nut you are. I am a Sexy Pistachio. Ha. How interesting. And weird at the same time. There are three other options. Walnut, Peanut, Crashew [???].

6. READER'S CHOICE QUESTION #63 from Chris:   Who knows the "real" you better - - your real world friends or your Jland readers?

Ha, that's easy. My real world friends know everything. They only reason they haven't ratted me out is that I've got the goods on them too. You guys in Jland have only seen what I want you to see. Kinda scary, huh?

Mrs. L
"We must synchronize our motives with that of others so we can quickly and steadily reach our goals."  I think they are referring to the fact that horses are herding animals.  Loved the stirrup joke!

RE: Runaround Sue

FWIW: Sue got the ultimate revenge. She married Dion.
